Today’s Geek Stack

It’ll probably change next week, but… Wireless device of choice is down to either the Moto Razr V3 (docs, Cingular is the only wireless carrier that’s reliable in my neighood), or the new Cingular 2125 Smartphone (docs, Mac/XP connectivity, and must-have apps AudioNotes, AutoFlight, NewsBreak, and SensibleSudoku). As for the compute engine, its either the 14″ Gateway M285 or Toshiba Portege M400 duo core hogs, or the svelt midrange Lenovo Thinkpad X41 (I’m giving a loaded M285 a try because of the video and case robustness — we’ll see how the weight issue plays out). The price range for the TPCs goes from $1500 to $3000! Yikes!!! M$’ new toy family, code-named Origami, should be announced next week — anybody crazy enough to test-drive their bleeding edge? No thanks…

Origami is public now and it sure looks like a compelling product … without a market! General geek rumblings are not very positive either. I’ll definitely stick with a full-sized TPC.
Ordered M285 on 10-May. Initial estimated ship date was 25-May.
Yikes — got a shipping delay notice. New date is June 9th!
Schweet, its on the way via Fedex from Shanghai!!
